Today we're going to be looking at the first sentences of personal statements, or what's commonly known as the "hook."
Let's take a look at some example opening statements:
Your turn:
- Open your own draft and review your first paragraph.
- Keeping your overall purpose in mind, take five minutes to brainstorm 4 or 5 different opening sentences. Don't worry about quality. Just experiment with different ways you can get your reader's attention.
